Metaphor of the day...

I try to never say never and always...but it's a metaphor.

NEVER arrive at work before Starbucks is open!

Quotes...

From the Georgia Gymdog Training Facility:
Somewhere behind the athlete you've become, the hours of practice, the coaches who push you, and the fans who cheer for you, is the little girl who fell in love with sport and never looked back.

COMPETE FOR HER!!!

From a t-shirt I saw in the ladies room:
TEAM WORK leads to DREAM WORK.

NCAA Gymnastics Championships

Bradley and I attended the 2008 NCAA Gymnastics Championships this weekend in Athens, Georgia with several other families from High Flight Gymnastics. We were able to attend all sessions. The University of Georgia Gymdogs won first place. This was the fourth year in a row they have won first place. It is very exciting to attend a college sporting event, especially when the home team is competing. There was a lot of energy in Stegeman Collesium and it was great to watch high level gymnastics.

Gymnastics is a very intense sport which requires years of practice to achieve the level of gymnatics we enjoyed this weekend. Many of these girls were seniors and this was their last competition. I think all who achieve any level of gymnastics are winners!!
Below are the final team scores from the NCAA Championships:
1 Georgia 197.125
2 Utah 196.944
3 Florida 196.893
4 Alabama 196.562
5 Michigan 196.542
Notice the point difference between 1st and 5th place...less than one point!!! .583
TOUGH SPORT!!!!

Another GK Chesterton quote:

"These are the days when the Christian is expected to praise every creed except his own." - ILN 8-11-28

That's 1928...sure sounds like the political correctness propaganda of today.

Harder than it has to be...

A lot of times when I say this phrase it's usually in a negative way because I am making something I am trying to do harder than it really needs to be to get my goal accomplished.

I watched the above video about gymnastics and reconsidered my thinking because there are some things in life that are harder than they have to be and for a reason.

Gymnasts train hour after hour and year after year in order to perform routines that last two minutes or less. However, if they didn't train at that level, they wouldn't be able to do the tricks and skills required. Remember this when you watch those little girls in the Olympics this summer.

Signs of spring

Two things happened this week that officially represent that spring is here.

1. Major League Baseball.

2. The smell of fresh cut grass.

I once attended a seminar about memory and they said smells were the number one memory trigger. I experienced that this evening when Bradley and I were driving home from gymnastics practice and we turned into our road, we could smell the neighbor's fresh cut grass and for a moment...I was reminded of being a kid in the summer, warm days and nights, staying up late and playing outside until past dark because there was no school. I remember when there used to be an amusement park at the Westgate Shopping Center and they had one of those huge spotlights. We could see the light in Weaverville and would be at our cousins' Pam and Melanie's house. We would play war spies and hide from the light.

Another smell that reminds me is cedar...it reminds me of my Granny. She had a cedar closet amoire and I remember the slight smell of cedar when I was around her.

What smells trigger memories for you?
